  • Condition: Looks probably about as good as the day it returned to Lakehurst and was then delivered to the addressee. Obviously it was well protected and preserved by the collector. Perfectly typed information. Clear, no smearing for 'FIRST ROUND-THE-WORLD' FLIGHT' .U.S. AIR MAIL cachet. Very painstakingly placed 5 USA Stamps and the blue -Par Avion- sticker. Nice clear, green postmark on reverse with a graphic of the Graf Zeppelin and arrival to Lakehurst, NJ. Clear date & time. Additional detaied condition: Not opened. Not cut. No folds or creases. 4 pretty good corners. Some small pencil writing on reverse. Glue age stains on reverse, typical for the day and the age.

    Description

    LAKEHURST to LAKEHURST!!   A FULL ROUND-THE WORLD FLIGHT!!!
    1929 Around The World flight has a ROUND Cachet.
    1930 Around the World fliight has a DIAMOND shape Cachet.
    Not too many envelopes circumnavigated the whole globe on the GZ LZ-127 and survived in this condition.
    Probably just collectors knew to make the Round-The-World cover.
    Many letters (regular mail) were delivered to countries in Europe and beyond also got the Cachet.
    Additional covers were added at enroute stops.
    Los Angeles to Lakehurst covers have US Stamps, too. Don't be fooled by their very similar looks.

    I did an extenssive ebay search and found only 1 other 1929 cover to make it Lakehurst-Lakehurst...it had a smudged Cachet and Sloppy, smudgy, scribbly, handwriting everywhere. A mess.
    Again, not too many examples made it the whole way AND survive in this condition.
    A true historical aviation and postal history, right here. In great condition, to boot.
